BRADGATE PARK AND MILTON KEYNES; DEER AND LAMBS

30/09/2026
Mrs. M was keen to get away so we combined a trip to Bradgate Park with a return via Milton Keynes Theatre.
Day 1, 29th September.
Mrs. M has an early dentist appointment in Banbury so I drop her off and collect a coffee from Greggs. Before I have finished my coffee she is out of the dentist and we are set to go! As we are leaving from Banbury our route is via the M40 and A46 to the M69 but an accident on the A46 holds us up for about 20 minutes. Arriving at Bradgate we initially go to the “wrong” car park at Hunts Hill but retrace our steps to arrive at the main Newtown Linford car park. Mrs M is not happy; she has forgotten her binoculars. Walking into the park I spot a couple of deer up on some rocks. We both take a few images, mine turn out to be my favourites of the day, one is the header to this article. Next stop is the Visitor Centre; tea and coffee, sausage roll and bacon turnover, a bit on the greasy side! We decide to walk across the middle of the park (on our last visit we had walked around the perimeter but seen virtually no deer). We are rewarded with some close up views of deer both small and large, but no rutting. In total about 250 images.
Leaving Bradgate we set off for Melton Mowbray where we are booked into the Premier Inn but we take a slight detour as I have spotted sign to a garden centre and, much more interestingly, Brockleby’s Pies. Surprisingly Mrs. M buys a few plants but unfortunately the pie shop is closed.
Arriving at the Melton Mowbray Premier Inn we register for the car park and walk into the town. First stop is the Crown Inn where draft Bass is still on offer. The bar-maid recommends the Jasmine House for an evening meal but it doesn’t open until 5pm so we kill some time in the Harboro Hotel making a note to visit the Anne of Cleves, an ancient Everards Inn, on our next visit. The Chinese is ok, we go to Lidl for essential supplies and retire to our room for the night.
Day 2, 30th September.
An excellent cooked to order breakfast and we set off for Milton Keynes, arriving at about 11:30, park up near to the Snowdome and seek out the theatre. It’s just across the road and we have tickets for The Silence of the Lambs, courtesy of the Cooks. We walk into the central shopping area where Mrs. M buys a few items. A light lunch in Pret and we return to the car to store the shopping. We have a quick one in the Moon Under Water, the local ‘Spoons, before going over to the theatre. A glass of wine for Mrs. M - £11! Even Mrs. M declines a second glass, a complete rip off, £4.50 in the ‘Spoons! The Silence of the Lambs. Is an excellent production, enhanced for me by getting ChatGPT to give me a synopsis of the story as I was not familiar with it. We leave the theatre and drive home, a good couple of days, I have put some images in a new Bradgate Park Gallery.
