A NEW ADDITION
03/09/2025

For some time I had been considering adding a new camera body to my kit but was constrained by the version of camera raw on my Elements 2019 software; I already had 2 Olympus OMD EM1 Mk11 bodies and these were the latest supported by my software. My previous experience (many years ago) of importing an updated version of camrera raw had been fraught with difficulty so it was a task which was very easy to put off! However, after a bit of "googling" it appeared that the process was now much simpler so i duly tried (and, I thought, succeeded) in downloading Camera Raw v17.5 which should have me covered for just about every camera in existence.
Suitably smug I started searching for "nearly new" OM System OM1 Mk11 bodies and located one in The London Camera Exchange in Oxford. After a train ride from Banbury and a sausage bap in the Greggs in Cornmarket (there was a 12 minute wait for bacon much to Mrs. M's annoyance) we located the LME shop and duly “paid up and looked big” - I’m the owner of the flagship OM System DSLR, a OM1 Mk2.
Given that the controls are similar to earlier Olympus cameras I was soon up to speed and taking some trial images. All was going well until I came to download the images into Elements - the files weren’t recognised. This was odd as, as previously mentioned, I’d downloaded the latest camera raw! After some considerable messing about and googling I established that Elements 2019 did not support the latest version of camera raw (in fact there are quite a few versions that it doesn’t support!) - it would have been nice to have this flagged up during the installation. This left me with no option but to bite the bullet and shell out £80 on Elements 2025 which I duly downloaded without any dramas. Thinking that all was well I downloaded the images again…still not recognised! More googling - it transpires that Elements 2025 does not include camera raw, it needs downloading separately. Fortunately I’m now very experienced in doing this and at last I have a new camera and the capability of downloading and editing images from it. Let’s hope it’s worth the the time, effort and money; I’m sure it will be.
