PEAK DISTRICT REVISITED

07/07/2024
At short notice we decided to take a few days away and looking for somewhere reasonably close we decided to revisit the Peak District and, in the absence of a Premier Inn, booked into the Travelodge in Glossop. Setting of at 7am we stopped off at Donnington Services for a Greggs breakfast before travelling on to Longshaw, a National Trust area. After a quick coffee and cake we set off to follow one of the waymarked walks and then found our way down to Padley Gorge where there were interesting photo opportunities. The weather so far had been good, unlike on our previous visit but as we drove over Snake Pass towards Glossop there was a heavy shower. Arriving in Gloosop we nabbed the last parking space outside the Travelodge and checked in. We then went to the nearby Lidl for some essential supplies and from there into the Pico Lounge for a late lunch / early dinner. I had my fist pint of Hofmeister in about 45 years; the price seemed to have increased somewhat A quick drink in the adjacent 'Spoons was in order but it was absolutely heaving so it was literally a quick one and out. There was no need to stop up late to see the election result; the exit poll told you all you needed to know!
The next day and it was back to the 'Spoons for breakfast and then we set off for The Three Shires Head cIrcular walk. I've done this walk a couple of times before but it is worth repeating with lots of different scenery and on this occasion the weather was good (note to self: take water next time!). We returned to Glossop and nabbed the same parking spot again. we had a quick walk around the town before returning to The Pico Lounge and from there to bed.
Setting off the next day the sat-nav took us around the south of Manchester and onto the M6. We stopped at Knutsford for breakfast before travelling home. Overall a very nice couple of days away. There are a few images in the Peak District Gallery.
